There are two main ways you can get it to record short clips or continuous raw video in the 16:9 -> 2.xx:1 aspect ratios. The first one, my current way of using the camera, is to shoot in 4:3 and 1.2:1 aspect ratios then avoid stretching in post since you already have 2.22:1 and 2:1 videos. In this mode, you can use the ML live view overlay
It should be said that trying to separately record sound and afterwards syncing it to the video is difficult. Unless one has done it before and has the equipment to record sound separately it would also be cheaper to pay more for a Canon 1100D, which does support video recording, IIRC.
Open up EOS utility. Open up the EOS utility application. Select the option "Camera options/Remote shooting." A small thin menu will appear. At the top of the menu, you will see the current camera settings along with the battery life. If shooting still images you need to find the "Live View Shoot" button.
The Canon EOS 1100D is a typical entry-level DSLR in so far that it features a relatively limited number of external controls. However, most parameters that don't have their own dedicated hard button can be changed in the interactive settings screen which can be accessed by pressing the Q-button. There is also (limited) scope for customization.
Here, move down to "Format Card" and press the "SET" button. Navigate to "OK" and once again, press the button "SET." The menu will appear again once the SD card has been formatted. Meanwhile, if you so desire, check the option "Low-level format." This is recommended if the card has a slow reading or recording speed.
